“It’s quiet.
I don’t understand how You grew everything so beautifully.
You saw that we tried, but it was never the same.
And I’m telling You — we really tried.”
“That was the last one.
Let’s go.”
The body of work explores humanity’s attempt to imitate and preserve a disappearing natural world, to build artificial reefs, to archive a beauty we failed to protect. The fleshy, organic silicone sculptures address power, silencing, and recurring patterns of behavior. Severed mermaid tongues symbolize the muting of both mythical and natural voices. Clinical, synthetic coral reefs are placed on display in natural history museums, once benzene has washed the seas clean.
Though we tried, we never made it as beautiful.
